DARK WATER, FLOWING LIGHT, 1982
If looking into a painting can be experienced as a gathering of energy, here I have directed that flow outward from the centre of view. Meshes of colour spread horizontally on supporting beams or undulate over a surface of no fixed points. These paintings were constructed so that light fall illuminates the various surface densities.
I associate this group of paintings with a place where I was at home for a while, near a tidal river linking a salt lake with the ocean.
