ORGANIC COLOUR, 2020-2022

Since mid-2020, I have been learning to distill traditional and sustainably cultivated plant and insect sourced extracts into pigments for painting. These include madder, cochineal, lac, weld and indigo, and some earth ochres. I plan to extend the explorations further. 

Making paintings with these colours is exciting and challenging. Each distill is showing unique resonance and malleability that feels like I am engaging with live colour. Something I have been striving for with manufactured acrylics for years.
