GARDENS, 1981

It has been suggested that experiences of active seeing are central to the way physical phenomena appear in view.

A four-sided rosette shape appeared quite clearly in front of my eyes while travelling through eucalypt forest with an archaeologist friend. Later I recalled this vivid image as a way to intersperse embedded curves within the familiar square grid.
